AOSTA, Italy - Jonas Vingegaard claimed the Giro d'Italia leader's pink jersey for the first time, earning his third stage win with a solo climb to the summit finish in Pila.
The Dane, seeking to become the eighth rider to win all three Grand Tours, attacked with less than 5 kilometers remaining on the 133-kilometer stage, which included five punishing climbs.
Austrian Felix Gall finished second, 49 seconds behind, while Australian Jai Hindley took third. Portuguese rider Afonso Eulalio, who held the pink jersey since stage five, dropped to second overall, trailing Vingegaard by 2 minutes 26 seconds.
Vingegaard credited his Visma-Lease a Bike teammates for controlling the race and setting up his winning attack on the final climb's 20 hairpin turns.
