Nebraska edged Vanderbilt 74-72 in the NCAA Tournament second round at Paycom Center in Oklahoma City - securing the Cornhuskers’ first-ever Sweet 16 berth after eight prior tournament appearances.
Nebraska led 39-32 at halftime and by as many as 10, but Vanderbilt rallied to lead 72-70 with under a minute remaining on Tyler Tanner’s layup - his 27th point.
Rienk Mast tied it with a putback at 37 seconds. Vanderbilt missed a go-ahead shot. Then Pryce Sandfort found Braden Frager for a contested layup with 2.2 seconds left.
Vanderbilt’s Tyler Tanner launched a half-court Hail Mary that rimmed out - echoing Gordon Hayward’s 2010 miss. The crowd fell silent before Nebraska erupted.
