Fifteen-year-old Vaibhav Sooryavanshi has achieved a remarkable feat in Twenty20 cricket, becoming the youngest player and the fastest by balls faced to reach 1,000 runs. He accomplished this milestone during the Indian Premier League (IPL) on Saturday, smashing a century in just 36 balls.
Sooryavanshi's explosive innings included 12 sixes and five boundaries, marking his second century in the IPL. He reached the 1,000-run mark having faced only 473 balls, surpassing the previous record held by Australia's Mitchell Owen, who reached the milestone in 533 balls.
The teenager's century stands as the third fastest in IPL history, trailing only Chris Gayle's 30-ball ton in 2013 and Sooryavanshi's own 35-ball hundred from the previous year. The young cricketer fell at 103 off 37 balls, contributing to Rajasthan's total of 228-6.
Despite Sooryavanshi's record-breaking performance, Hyderabad successfully chased down the target with nine balls remaining, thanks to significant contributions from Ishan Kishan (74) and Abhishek Sharma (57). Both Hyderabad and Rajasthan are currently vying for a playoff spot, positioned in the top half of the league standings.
