The 2026 World Cup, hosted by the US, Canada, and Mexico, will be the most expensive ever for fans. FIFA, aiming at corporations and wealthy travelers, introduces dynamic pricing. The cheapest tickets start at about $60 but are very limited. For the final, VIP packages can exceed $10,000, and resale prices have hit as high as $207,000.

In contrast, at the 2014 Brazil World Cup, premium seats for the final cost around $1,000. The 2018 Russia tournament saw prices reach $1,100, and Qatar 2022 marked a significant increase. Now, the gap between cheap and expensive tickets is enormous, dividing fans into different economic classes.

European fan groups, like Football Supporters Europe, have criticized the prices, calling them outrageous and accusing FIFA of pricing out traditional fans. The England Supporters Travel Club estimates a fan following England to the final could need over $7,000 just for tickets and basic expenses.

FIFA, however, reports record ticket demand from over 200 countries. The 2026 tournament's new 48-team format, longer travel, and increased costs may permanently change the World Cup from a global celebration into a premium product.
