The FIFA World Cup 2026 is projected to be a major economic catalyst for tourism across North America. New data from the World Travel & Tourism Council forecasts a significant boost to the sector's GDP in all three host nations.

Canada is expected to see the most substantial growth, with a 6.4% increase in tourism GDP. Mexico is set to expand by 2.4%, while the United States is forecast to grow by 2.1%.

The WTTC views the tournament as a pivotal moment to enhance long-term tourism growth, driven by improved air connectivity, integrated traveler experiences, and deeper cross-border cooperation.

Gloria Guevara, WTTC President and CEO, says the tournament offers a unique opportunity to accelerate growth, strengthen connectivity, and showcase the region to a global audience.

Mexico Leads 2025 Regional Performance

Mexico outperformed its neighbors in 2025, with tourism GDP expanding by 1.8%, compared to 0.9% in the United States and 1.2% in Canada. Mexico also recorded the highest growth in international visitor spending, up 3.5%, and a 6.1% increase in international arrivals.

The WTTC estimates the Travel & Tourism sector will support 30.9 million jobs across North America in 2026, representing 12.7% of total regional employment.

Globally, tourism is expected to contribute nearly $12 trillion to the world economy and sustain 376 million jobs in 2026.
