Minnesota Wild general manager Bill Guerin called hockey reporter Jessi Pierce a “ray of sunshine” as the NHL community mourns her and her three young children, who died in a house fire Saturday in White Bear Lake, Minnesota.
“Words just can’t express how devastated we all are,” Guerin said. “Jessi was always happy, always in a good mood, always a pleasure to deal with.”
Pierce covered the Wild for NHL.com for a decade and was known for bringing her children to the rink. Wild captain Jared Spurgeon recalled her interviewing players while holding her son. “Every time she was in here, she had a smile on her face,” he said.
Teammate Marcus Foligno said the entire roster was “devastated.” The fire broke out early Saturday at Pierce’s single-family home. Firefighters also found the family dog deceased at the scene.
The Minnesota Wild issued a statement calling Pierce “a kind, compassionate person” and “a dedicated ambassador for the game of hockey.”
