West Ham United captain Jarrod Bowen has questioned the consistency of VAR reviews after Callum Wilson’s stoppage-time equalizer against Arsenal was controversially ruled out.

Wilson’s goal, scored from a goalmouth scramble following a corner, was disallowed for a foul on Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya after a lengthy VAR check.

“When you look at the screen for five minutes you’ll find something,” Bowen said. “Do I think it’s the right decision? No. Where’s the consistency?”

Bowen noted Arsenal had previously faced criticism for crowding goalkeepers on corners, while pointing to a denied penalty for West Ham earlier this month after Tomas Soucek was held in the box.

“Corners are physical. The Premier League is physical. That’s why everyone loves it,” Bowen added.

West Ham’s defeat left the club 18th in the league, one point from safety. Arsenal extended their lead to five points over Manchester City.

VAR continues to face scrutiny. A March survey showed 75 percent of Premier League fans oppose its continued use.
