West Ham United has advanced to the FA Cup quarter-finals, defeating Brentford 5-3 in a penalty shootout after a 2-2 draw. Defender Konstantinos Mavropanos scored the decisive penalty.
Brentford twice equalized during regular time. Jarrod Bowen opened the scoring for West Ham in the 19th minute, but Nathan Collins leveled for Brentford nine minutes later. Bowen restored West Ham's lead from the penalty spot after Adama Traore was fouled. Brentford forced penalties when Crysencio Summerville conceded a penalty, which Igor Thiago converted in the 81st minute.
In the shootout, Dango Ouattara's failed "Panenka" attempt proved costly for Brentford. Alphonse Areola saved the penalty, allowing Mavropanos to seal West Ham's progression.
