World champion Peres Jepchirchir will not compete in the upcoming London Marathon. Race organizers announced her withdrawal Tuesday, citing a stress fracture that significantly delayed her training.
Jepchirchir, the Tokyo Olympic gold medalist and reigning World Champion, stated she only resumed training in late January. She indicated this limited preparation makes her unable to compete at the required level for the London event.
This marks the second consecutive year Jepchirchir has withdrawn from the London Marathon due to injury. Olympic champion Sifan Hassan has also pulled out of the race with an Achilles injury.
