Tottenham Hotspur and Netherlands midfielder Xavi Simons will miss the upcoming World Cup after sustaining a serious knee injury. His season has ended prematurely, ruling him out of international competition.

Simons was injured during Tottenham's recent match against Wolverhampton Wanderers and left the field on a stretcher. The injury is to his right ACL, according to early reports.

"My season has come to an abrupt end and I’m just trying to process it. Honestly, I’m heartbroken," Simons stated on Instagram. "All I’ve wanted to do is fight for my team and now the ability to do that has been snatched away from me… along with the World Cup. Representing my country this summer…just gone."

The 23-year-old was projected to be a vital player for the Netherlands squad in the World Cup, marking his second appearance. He has accumulated 34 caps for his country.

This injury also represents a significant setback for Tottenham during their challenging Premier League campaign.
