Asher Genoot, CEO of Hut 8, one of North America’s largest bitcoin mining and high-performance computing infrastructure providers, says the demand for AI is still in its infancy. He points to companies like Anthropic showing month-over-month revenue growth as evidence that adoption is just beginning.
Genoot explains that Honeydade is taking a multi-technology infrastructure approach, building energy campuses that support not just bitcoin or AI, but multiple technologies at once. This diversification, he says, positions the company for future growth.
Contrary to popular belief, Genoot argues that data centers can actually lower energy prices. Because operators pay for infrastructure upgrades, the entire grid benefits. He also notes that closed-loop cooling systems in modern data centers use far less water than traditional office buildings.
On national security, Genoot stresses the importance of keeping Bitcoin’s compute power in the US rather than in countries like Iran, Russia, or China. He says the US needs to foster national pride and excitement to lead in AI and technology infrastructure.
Finally, Genoot predicts a shift toward smaller data center campuses, driven by power constraints and the specific needs of AI workloads. Large-scale construction is becoming harder due to limited power availability.
