Anthropic announced Friday it has received approval from the US government to restore access to its Mythos 5 AI model for a specific group of US organizations.
The announcement follows a directive earlier this month from the Trump administration that banned foreign nationals, including Anthropic employees, from using the company's Mythos 5 and Fable 5 models. Anthropic had shut off access to all customers to comply.
The company stated it received clearance to redeploy Mythos 5 to "a set of US organizations that operate and defend critical infrastructure."
"We're restoring access for these organizations quickly," Anthropic said, adding it is working with the government to expand access and seek approval for general use of Fable 5.
The earlier ban had drawn sharp criticism from European officials, including France's Minister Delegate for Europe, Benjamin Haddad, who called for greater European investment and technological sovereignty.
