AES Corporation has finalized a 20-year agreement with Google to power the tech giant's new data center in Wilbarger County, Texas. This deal includes co-located energy generation facilities designed to meet the expanding needs of Google's core services.
The agreement comes as U.S. utilities are rapidly securing supply contracts with data center operators, driven by the significant power demand increase fueled by the artificial intelligence boom. This surge, however, has also raised concerns about potential rises in consumer energy costs.
Google's Global Head of Data Center Energy, Amanda Peterson Corio, stated the new clean generation will be integrated with the facility, easing pressure on the local grid and helping to stabilize energy expenses.
AES has now secured agreements for approximately 12 gigawatts of energy with data center clients, with 9 GW representing direct power purchase agreements with hyperscale operators.
