AirTrunk announced a $30 billion investment to build over 5 gigawatts of AI-ready data center capacity in India by 2030. This bet is massive: India's entire current data center capacity is just 1.5 gigawatts.
The company started with a head start through its April 2026 acquisition of Lumina CloudInfra, which brought a 600 MW development pipeline in Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. AirTrunk is backed by institutional investors Blackstone and Canada Pension Plan Investment Board (CPPIB).
India's data center capacity is projected to grow to 8 GW by 2030, and AirTrunk's 5 GW+ contribution would make it the largest operator in the country. Founder Robin Khuda launched AirTrunk in 2015, and the company already has facilities across Asia-Pacific, including Australia, Japan, Singapore, Hong Kong, and Malaysia.
