Highlight AI Inc. has raised $40 million in a Series A funding round led by Khosla Ventures, with participation from more than half a dozen other investors.
The company also announced the appointment of Sergei Sorokin, former vice president of product at Discord Inc., as its new Chief Executive Officer.
Originally spun off from Medal Inc. in 2024, Highlight AI develops a desktop application that uses artificial intelligence to boost knowledge worker productivity. Its software analyzes complex files like product diagrams, auto-generates meeting notes, and converts scattered information into actionable to-do items.
The app offers a free tier and a $20-per-month Highlight Premium plan featuring advanced AI models from OpenAI and others, allowing users to delegate complex tasks to powerful models while reserving faster, smaller ones for routine work.
Highlight claims over 500,000 users since launch, including employees at Google and DoorDash.
The new funding will accelerate development of a “unified team memory engine” designed to automate multi-person workflows across applications. In one example, the system can assign design tasks by analyzing interface mockups and Slack conversations-and even generate functional website code via integrations like the Cursor editor.
“Without a shared memory across tools, people are forced to copy and paste between systems,” Sorokin said. “They spend countless hours reassembling work instead of moving it forward.”
The company is testing these features with select customers and plans to roll out AI agents capable of broader automation using world models-neural networks optimized for 3D virtual environments.
