Anthropic PBC has launched a new memory import feature for its Claude chatbot, enabling new users to bring their conversation history from rival AI models. This move comes as Claude surged to the top of the App Store charts following a public disagreement with the Trump administration.

Anthropic recently declined a Pentagon request to use its technology for mass domestic surveillance or fully autonomous weapons. President Trump publicly criticized Anthropic's owners and ordered federal agencies to cease using its products.

Despite the blacklisting, Claude surpassed ChatGPT in Apple's App Store for free apps, experiencing unprecedented demand that led to service outages.

The new import tool allows users to copy and paste conversation data from other chatbots into Claude. The AI then updates its memory with user preferences and context, aiming to provide a seamless transition. The import process can take up to 24 hours to fully assimilate.

Users can review and manage imported information through Claude's settings. This feature is compatible with major chatbots including ChatGPT, Google's Gemini, and Microsoft's Copilot.
