Anthropic PBC has introduced Claude Design, a new tool designed to generate visual assets through natural language prompts. The offering is now in public preview for users with Pro, Max, Team, and Enterprise subscriptions.
The interface features a "Let's prototype" sidebar with a chat box for describing desired visual assets. Users can also upload reference images or document files, such as a PDF outlining a new product, to guide the AI in creating assets like banner ads.
Generated designs appear on a virtual canvas. A "Tweaks" button allows for refinements, enabling users to edit specific components or generate custom graphic design controls, such as tooltips for adjusting text size and font.
Claude Design can produce a wide array of visual assets, from simple ads and slides to complex interactive elements. It also supports design systems, automatically applying organizational guidelines to projects. Developers can integrate code repositories to generate program interfaces.
Underlying Claude Design is Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.7 large language model, which reportedly offers enhanced graphic design capabilities and more accurate image analysis compared to its predecessor.
The tool was developed by Anthropic Labs, a unit that recently saw co-lead Mike Krieger, former Chief Product Officer, join its ranks. This expansion suggests Anthropic's strategic focus on task-specific AI products.
Following the announcement, shares of design software firm Figma Inc. experienced a significant drop, indicating potential market disruption.
