Amazon Web Services (AWS) has made OpenAI's powerful large language models and its Codex programming assistant available on its cloud platform. These advanced algorithms can now be accessed through Amazon Bedrock.

AWS is also launching Bedrock Managed Agents, a new service designed to simplify the creation of AI agents powered by OpenAI technology. This move follows a revision of OpenAI's partnership agreement with Microsoft, previously the exclusive cloud distributor of its models.

This integration is significant given Amazon's substantial $15 billion investment in OpenAI, with plans for an additional $35 billion. OpenAI's latest AI models, including GPT-5.5, are now in limited preview for Bedrock users. GPT-5.5 reportedly optimizes graphics card performance and develops mathematical proofs, outperforming Anthropic's Claude Opus 4.7.

Codex, OpenAI's programming assistant, is accessible via Bedrock's API, with a desktop app and command-line interface also available. Both the LLMs and Codex are in limited preview and count towards AWS spending commitments, simplifying procurement for enterprise clients.

Bedrock Managed Agents enhances agent development by combining LLMs with the OpenAI agent harness for improved task performance, faster prompt response, and sharper reasoning. It also integrates Bedrock AgentCore, which helps agents manage information and reduces the need for developers to build data management infrastructure from scratch. This service also includes tools for code execution, web access, and integration with external tools.
