Apple is preparing to give Siri the most significant overhaul in its history, transforming the voice assistant into a modern AI chatbot. The redesign is expected to take center stage at WWDC 2026, scheduled for June 8 at Apple Park.

The goal is straightforward: make Siri conversational, context-aware, and genuinely useful.

Apple is building an entirely new Siri app, a standalone experience that goes beyond the floating orb introduced in 2011. The app will include conversational history, file and image uploads, and integration with the Dynamic Island. A new system-wide 'Ask Siri' interface will complement the app across iOS 27 and macOS 27.

Screen awareness and multi-app functionality are also planned, allowing Siri to understand what's on the display and chain actions across multiple apps.

Apple first previewed major AI enhancements at WWDC 2024, which included optional ChatGPT integration. Those features were originally slated for iOS 26 but were delayed due to internal testing challenges.

Apple is reportedly exploring a multi-partner approach to AI models, potentially opening Siri to models from multiple providers, including Google.

A more capable Siri strengthens Apple's ecosystem lock-in, supporting services revenue as hardware sales mature. The multi-model approach also positions Apple as a potential kingmaker in the AI space, with partner choices signaling investment opportunities.
