Alibaba Group Holding Ltd is forming a new task force to expedite foundation model development. The initiative follows the resignation of Lin Junyang, head of its Qwen AI division.
Alibaba Group CEO Eddie Wu, Group Chief Technology Officer Wu Zeming, and Alibaba Cloud CTO Zhou Jingren will lead the task force, leveraging group-wide resources. Zhou will also continue to head Alibaba's AI research arm, Tongyi Laboratory.
The move comes after Lin's announcement of his departure from Qwen, marking the third senior executive exit this year. Alibaba has pledged increased resources for its AI development efforts.
