Nearly half of American adults have used an AI chatbot, up from 33% in 2024. The survey conducted from February 17-23, 2026, involved 5,119 participants. Notably, 25% use chatbots daily.
ChatGPT leads the market with 44% usage, followed by Google’s Gemini at 24%, Microsoft Copilot at 17%, and Meta AI at 14%. Usage rates differ; 63% of adults under 50 use chatbots, while only 23% of those aged 65 and older have tried them. Asian adults reported the highest usage at 70%.
Concerns loom over AI's impact; two-thirds of US adults feel AI is advancing too rapidly, and 71% worry about personal data security. Moreover, 40% believe AI poses societal risks.
For investors, ChatGPT’s dominance indicates a competitive landscape. The user base of Google’s Gemini suggests fresh challengers can secure market share, while Microsoft’s 17% shows that integration does not guarantee success. Regulatory scrutiny appears imminent as public concern over data security heightens.
With only 23% of the 65+ demographic having used chatbots and 37% of individuals under 50 yet to adopt, these segments represent significant potential for future growth.
