Amazon Web Services (AWS) reported significant power and connectivity issues impacting data centers in Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates on Monday. The disruptions occurred as Iran launched retaliatory strikes across the Gulf region, targeting airports, ports, and residential areas.
Two AWS availability zones in the UAE experienced a complete loss of power. The company stated that one zone was affected after "objects" struck the data center, causing sparks and fire, leading to a power shutdown. A second zone also faced a localized power issue. AWS advised customers to utilize services in other regions, with recovery anticipated to take "multiple hours."
AWS also confirmed localized power issues at one of its availability zones in Bahrain. The company has not confirmed whether the UAE incidents were directly linked to the Iranian strikes.
