Major European broadcasters are pressing EU regulators to designate Big Tech smart TV operating systems as gatekeepers. The Association of Commercial Television and Video on Demand Services in Europe formally notified Antitrust Chief Teresa Ribera this Monday.
Their letter argues that Android TV, Amazon Fire OS, and Samsung Tizen OS hold dangerous market concentrations. The group seeks enforcement under the Digital Markets Act to ensure fair competition.
Virtual assistants like Alexa and Siri also face scrutiny for unregulated content control. The European Commission has yet to respond to the lobbying effort.
