Travel anxiety may soon be a thing of the past as artificial intelligence promises to make the entire travel experience seamless. Two global travel platforms, Rome2Rio and its parent company Omio, are integrating OpenAI's ChatGPT into their apps. This integration will provide their 900 million weekly users with unprecedented access to worldwide routes, prices, and transport options across trains, buses, flights, and ferries.

Users can now simply ask ChatGPT for the fastest and cheapest route between two cities, receiving all necessary information in a single, conversational interface. Research indicates one in three travelers already uses AI for trip planning. Travel companies emphasize that these new apps utilize live data and deep technical integrations via API, rather than relying on AI-generated estimates, to ensure accuracy and reduce the risk of "hallucination."

AI is also poised to enhance the travel experience by proactively managing disruptions. Users could receive alerts about potential delays and suggested alternate routes, making travel more transparent and helping customers make informed decisions.

Despite the convenience, concerns exist that AI-driven planning could exacerbate over-tourism. However, proponents argue that AI can also empower travelers to discover less-traveled routes and spread tourism beyond popular hubs, benefiting local economies by highlighting secondary destinations. The goal is to leverage AI for logistics, preserving the spirit of adventure in travel.
