Two years after selling a stake in its Irish chip manufacturing facility, Intel Corp. announced plans to repurchase Apollo Global Management's shares for $14.2 billion. The deal, funded with a mix of cash and stock, represents a $3 billion return for Apollo. Intel CEO David Zinsner stated that the move enhances their financial position and supports critical initiatives.

Intel’s Fab 34 in Ireland produces advanced CPUs, including those in the Xeon 6 series, which feature up to 128 cores with a max frequency of 3.9 GHz. The plant also manufactures chips for Intel’s Core Ultra processor series, primarily for laptops.

This strategic repurchase aligns with the competition, such as Nvidia's new server CPU and Arm's 136-core AI cluster CPU.
