Apple officially announced the AirPods Max 2 on March 16, 2026-the first major update since the original 2020 release. The over-ear headphones retain the $549 price tag but now feature the H2 chip, enabling significant audio and smart functionality upgrades.

The H2 chip improves noise cancellation by up to 1.5 times and enhances Transparency mode. A new high dynamic range amplifier delivers cleaner audio while preserving the original sound signature. Spatial Audio now offers more accurate bass and natural mids and highs.

Key new features include Adaptive Audio, which automatically blends noise cancellation and transparency based on surroundings. Conversation Awareness lowers volume when speaking. Voice Isolation boosts call clarity by focusing on the user’s voice.

Additional capabilities include Personalized Volume, head gestures for Siri control, and Live Translation for real-time conversation translation. The headphones support 24-bit 48 kHz lossless audio via USB-C.

Pre-orders begin March 25 in midnight, starlight, orange, purple, and blue. Availability starts early April. With the launch, renewed or older models are expected to see deeper discounts.
