Advanced Machine Intelligence (AMI), the startup founded by former Meta Platforms chief AI scientist Yann LeCun, has raised $1.03 billion at a $3.50 billion pre-money valuation. The company aims to commercialize artificial intelligence systems built around reasoning, planning, and "world models."
This financing round, co-led by Cathay Innovation, Greycroft, Hiro Capital, HV Capital, and Bezos Expeditions, tests LeCun's conviction that current large language models lack human-level reasoning and autonomy.
LeCun stated that AMI seeks to build systems capable of reasoning and planning in complex real-world environments. He believes AI approaches solely based on predicting the next word or pixel are insufficient for creating broadly capable intelligent agents.
AMI's initial target customers include organizations managing complex systems such as manufacturers, automakers, aerospace companies, and biomedical and pharmaceutical groups. LeCun envisions AMI becoming a primary provider of intelligent systems across various applications.
Future applications could extend to consumer technology, such as domestic robots requiring common sense to understand the physical world. LeCun is also exploring potential deployment of AMI's technology with Meta's Ray-Ban smart glasses.
