Meta has acquired Limitless, a startup behind a $99 AI wearable pendant that records conversations and extracts actionable insights using AI. The acquisition closed on December 5, 2025, and the team will join Meta's Reality Labs division, which is also responsible for VR headsets and Ray-Ban Meta smart glasses.

Limitless had raised over $33 million from investors including a16z, NEA, and Sam Altman. The pendant was designed to passively capture daily conversations and use AI to surface important information.

Meta is pursuing what it calls 'personal superintelligence,' aiming for AI that understands the context of a user's life. Sales of the pendant have been halted, with existing customers receiving at least one year of support.

This acquisition aligns with Meta's broader hardware push, which includes hiring Apple design veteran Alan Dye and reportedly developing a smartwatch for a 2026 release. Meta aims to have three distinct AI-powered wearable categories: eyewear, a pendant, and a watch.

Meta competes with OpenAI, Google, and Rabbit in the AI wearables market. Reality Labs has historically burned billions annually. Terms of the deal were not disclosed.
