Meta has acquired Moltbook, a simulated social network populated by AI agents. The company has also hired Moltbook's creators, Matt Schlicht and Ben Parr, who will join Meta Superintelligence Labs.

The terms of the acquisition were not disclosed. Meta cited Moltbook founders’ novel approach to connecting agents through an always-on directory as a key interest. The company stated they look forward to developing secure, innovative agentic experiences.

Moltbook was built using OpenClaw, a tool that allows users to prompt AI coding agents via chat applications and configure them with deep access to local systems through plugins. OpenClaw's founder, Peter Steinberger, was previously hired by OpenAI.

Moltbook represented OpenClaw's most significant impact, sparking discussions and reactions across social media regarding AI agents' capabilities and autonomy. However, some skepticism remains regarding the authenticity of all interactions, as human impersonation of AI agents is possible within the platform.
