Meta Platforms plans to start testing an AI pendant within the next year, part of a broader wearable device roadmap aimed at reversing losses in its hardware division, according to a memo cited by The Information.
Meta declined to comment on the report.
The Facebook and Instagram owner intends to expand its AI glasses lineup and launch a business-focused service called "Wearables for Work," the report said, citing an internal memo from Alex Himel, Meta’s vice president of wearables.
This initiative follows Meta's first-quarter earnings, where its Reality Labs unit reported a loss of $4.03 billion on revenue of just $402 million.
Meta aims to sell 10 million wearable devices in the second half of 2026, boosting sales through new products and expanded geographic availability, according to The Information.
Meta currently partners with EssilorLuxottica brands Ray-Ban and Oakley for AI-powered smart glasses.
Last year, Meta acquired AI-wearables startup Limitless, which makes a pendant-style device that records and transcribes conversations, to accelerate its development of next-generation AI wearables.
