Crusoe Energy is building a new 900-megawatt AI data campus in Abilene, Texas, exclusively for Microsoft. The development adds two buildings and an on-site power plant designed to enhance grid resilience.
This expansion brings Crusoe’s total projected capacity at the Abilene site to 2.1 gigawatts. Land clearing has already begun, with the first building scheduled to go live in mid-2027.
The project follows Microsoft’s recent agreement to lease approximately 700 megawatts of capacity previously earmarked for Oracle and OpenAI. The site sits adjacent to the Stargate AI infrastructure hub, underscoring Abilene’s emergence as a strategic U.S. AI corridor.
Crusoe is also constructing a manufacturing facility nearby to produce modular AI data centers, aiming to accelerate deployment amid growing power constraints.
The new campus will feature behind-the-meter power generation, battery storage, ultra-high-density computing, and closed-loop liquid cooling. It’s expected to generate thousands of construction jobs and hundreds of permanent positions, significantly boosting local tax revenue in Taylor County.
