HELSINKI, March 31 - AI infrastructure provider Nebius Group is expanding rapidly across Europe with a new 310-megawatt data center in Lappeenranta, Finland, valued at over $10 billion.

The facility, under construction by Finnish developer Polarnode, is set to begin operations in phases starting in 2027. Located near Finland’s border with Russia, it will be one of Europe’s largest AI centers.

Nebius has secured over $40 billion in supply contracts with U.S. tech leaders including Microsoft and Meta. The new center will support training and deployment of AI models without being exclusive to any one client.

"We believe the ecosystem here is extremely favorable," said Nebius Chief Communications Officer Tom Blackwell.

Finland offers key advantages for data centers: low energy costs, renewable power sources, and naturally cool temperatures that cut cooling expenses.

Once fully operational, the Lappeenranta facility will become Nebius’ largest non-U.S. site and contribute approximately 10% of its planned global capacity of more than 3 gigawatts by year-end.

"This project makes a significant contribution to our growth strategy," said CEO Arkady Volozh.

The site will consume as much electricity as half a million homes, underscoring its scale within European digital infrastructure development.
