Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang indicated that the chipmaker's substantial investments in OpenAI and Anthropic are likely to be its last, as both artificial intelligence companies are poised to go public this year.
Huang stated at the Morgan Stanley Technology, Media and Telecom conference that a $100 billion opportunity to invest in OpenAI is unlikely, given the ChatGPT creator's preparations for an IPO. Nvidia previously announced a $100 billion deal with OpenAI in September, but has since finalized a $30 billion investment, which Huang described as potentially the last such significant opportunity.
OpenAI is reportedly planning an IPO that could value the company at up to $1 trillion. Similarly, Nvidia's $10 billion investment in Anthropic is expected to be its final, according to Huang. The AI startup is also reportedly exploring a public offering.
Concerns had been raised by some analysts regarding the structure of these large investments, which would have made Nvidia a major stakeholder in significant customers and potentially funded the purchase of its own AI processors.
