OpenAI is actively developing a range of AI-powered devices, reportedly involving over 200 employees. Plans include a smart speaker, smart glasses, and a smart lamp.

The initial offering, a smart speaker, is expected to be priced between $200 and $300 and could launch as early as February 2027. This device will feature a camera, allowing it to gather information about its users and environment.

Smart glasses are also in development, though mass production is not anticipated before 2028.

This hardware initiative follows OpenAI's reported $6.5 billion acquisition of Jony Ive's startup, io Products, underscoring a strategic move into physical AI and augmented reality hardware.
