OpenAI announced Monday it is establishing a new company with over $4 billion in initial investment to help organizations build and deploy AI systems. The venture, called OpenAI Deployment Company, is majority-owned by OpenAI and will embed engineers specializing in frontier AI deployment into corporate clients.
As part of the push, OpenAI is acquiring consulting firm Tomoro, which brings around 150 experienced AI engineers and deployment specialists. Tomoro, formed in 2023 in alliance with OpenAI, counts Mattel, Red Bull, Tesco, and Virgin Atlantic as clients.
The move comes as OpenAI intensifies its enterprise push against rival Anthropic, whose Claude models are seeing rapid business adoption. The deployment unit is a multi-year partnership between OpenAI and 19 firms, led by TPG with co-leads Advent, Bain Capital, and Brookfield.
