OpenAI is merging ChatGPT, ChatGPT Atlas browser, and Codex programming assistant into a single desktop superapp. The move simplifies user experience and streamlines internal engineering efforts.
The company’s new AI research intern tool, expected by September, will automate tasks that typically take scientists days. OpenAI aims to launch a fully automated multi-agent research system by 2028.
Codex will receive enhanced AI agent capabilities in the coming months, expanding beyond coding. Rival Anthropic has taken a similar path with Claude Cowork, which automates project management, marketing, and finance tasks.
