OpenAI Group has launched a new business unit, The OpenAI Deployment Company, to help large enterprises deploy its artificial intelligence models. The subsidiary launched with $4 billion in funding from OpenAI and over a dozen backers, including asset manager TPG, SoftBank, Bain Capital, and Brookfield. The unit is valued at $14 billion.
The OpenAI Deployment Company will send forward deployed engineers (FDEs) to client offices to identify high-return AI use cases, build proof-of-concept deployments, and then develop production-grade AI software. It will also handle integrations with existing applications.
OpenAI also acquired London-based Tomoro AI Ltd., adding about 150 technical professionals. Tomoro’s clients include Virgin Atlantic and Tesco. This move into the multibillion-dollar consulting market comes as OpenAI prepares for an IPO.
