Peter Steinberger, the creator of the popular AI agent framework OpenClaw, has implemented a ban on all cryptocurrency discussions within the project's Discord server. This stringent policy follows a surge in spam, harassment, and threats directed at Steinberger by individuals seeking to profit from a perceived connection to OpenClaw.

Steinberger stated that scammers actively tried to leverage OpenClaw's growing popularity. "Any project that lists me as coin owner is a SCAM," he previously warned on X. He emphasized that the project's Discord is intended for discussions about OpenClaw itself, not financial speculation. The sheer volume of spam forced the team to block numerous users, disrupting conversations about the core technology.

This crackdown coincides with Steinberger's recent move to OpenAI, where he will focus on advancing personal AI agents. While some users have questioned how this strict crypto stance aligns with OpenAI CEO Sam Altman's involvement in Worldcoin, a digital identity network that issues a cryptocurrency, Steinberger has maintained that his project is about changing the world, not building a company or engaging in cryptocurrency schemes.
