BERLIN, March 16 - Swiss drugmaker Roche has significantly expanded its AI computing power by deploying 2,176 Nvidia Blackwell graphics processing units across U.S. and European sites.

The move gives Roche the largest GPU footprint in the pharmaceutical industry, aimed at accelerating drug discovery, diagnostics development, data modeling, and clinical trial processes.

This expansion is part of an ongoing collaboration with Nvidia, as major pharma companies race to integrate AI to shorten development timelines and cut costs.

“In healthcare, time is the most critical variable,” said Wafaa Mamilli, Roche’s Chief Digital and Technology Officer.

Experts project agentic AI-systems requiring minimal human oversight-could boost clinical development productivity by 35% to 45% over the next five years.
