Elon Musk's SpaceX is leasing access to its massive Colossus 1 AI data center in Memphis, Tennessee, to Anthropic, uniting two major AI players.
Under the deal, Anthropic will use the full computing power of the facility to boost capacity for its Claude Pro and Claude Max AI assistants and raise usage limits for subscribers.
Colossus 1 is one of the world's largest AI data centers, housing over 220,000 Nvidia processors, including H100, H200, and next-generation GB200 accelerators.
The deal gives IPO-bound SpaceX a marquee customer as it looks to sell investors on its AI ambitions, while Anthropic addresses capacity constraints following surging demand for its AI coding tool, Claude Code.
Anthropic has expressed interest in developing multiple gigawatts of space-based data centers with SpaceX, a key goal for Musk and a major driver behind the SpaceX IPO.
The announcements came at Anthropic's developer day in San Francisco, where it unveiled "dreaming," a new feature for its Claude AI that enables self-improvement by reviewing agents' work between sessions and updating user preferences.
Anthropic is also expanding its financial AI offerings, having unveiled ten financially focused AI agents at a New York event, where it noted the tech sector is its largest source of enterprise revenue, followed by financial institutions.
Moves by the Google- and Amazon-backed startup have pressured SaaS stocks as markets expect AI to disrupt legacy businesses.
