Sakana AI has introduced Sakana Fugu, a multi-agent orchestration system that integrates specialist AI models through an OpenAI-compatible API. Fugu Ultra, its premier version, achieved a score of 73.7 on the SWE-Bench Pro benchmark, rivaling leading models like Anthropic’s Fable 5.
Fugu acts as a conductor, managing AI agents to autonomously decide roles and task allocations in real-time. This configuration allows flexibility, eliminating the rigidity seen in traditional multi-agent approaches.
Strategically, Fugu mitigates export control risks and vendor lock-in by distributing functionality across various providers, ensuring operational resilience. However, the system is currently unavailable in the EU and EEA due to regulatory compliance issues.
