SoftBank Corp has initiated talks with Nvidia and Foxconn to explore the creation of "made-in-Japan" artificial intelligence servers, according to the Nikkei newspaper.
The Japanese telecom giant aims to initially assemble externally sourced components by the end of the decade, eventually taking full control of the manufacturing process.
These high-performance servers are designed for advanced graphics processing units running at high speeds.
This plan is part of SoftBank's medium-term management strategy, expected to be announced as early as Monday.
This move follows Masayoshi Son-led SoftBank Group's $30 billion investment in OpenAI, securing about an 11 percent stake in an "all-in" bet on winning the large language model race.
