Sony is facing a fresh wave of criticism after announcing another price hike for its PlayStation Plus subscription service. The increase, effective May 20 for new subscribers, comes just weeks after the company raised the price of the PlayStation 5 console in Europe and other international markets.

Under the new pricing, a one-month Essential subscription in the US will cost $10.99. In Europe, the same tier will be €9.99, and in the UK, £7.99. Three-month plans are also going up. Sony says the changes reflect “global market conditions.”

Existing members in many regions will keep their current prices unless they cancel or change their plan. However, reports indicate users in countries like India and Turkey may see increases applied to ongoing subscriptions as well.

The move has triggered a strong backlash online. Gamers are questioning the value of the service, with many arguing the price increases are not matched by better benefits. Some are calling for an end to the industry standard of paying for online multiplayer access.

Analysts say Sony is capitalizing on a broader industry trend toward premium subscriptions, giving the company room to adjust pricing without major revenue loss. The debate underscores the growing tension between gaming companies seeking stable recurring income and consumers facing higher entertainment costs.
