SpaceX is actively installing equipment at its advanced chip packaging facility in Bastrop, Texas. The company aims to commence production by the end of this year, according to sources familiar with the matter. This facility will package radio frequency (RF) chips essential for SpaceX's Starlink satellite internet system. Currently, these chips are outsourced for packaging, but SpaceX plans to bring a significant portion of this process in-house.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott previously announced that the Bastrop facility is slated for a 1 million square foot expansion over three years, to produce Starlink kits and components, including advanced silicon products. This expansion represents an investment exceeding $280 million. Elon Musk has been consistently enhancing SpaceX's semiconductor capabilities, recently revealing plans for advanced chip factories at a larger Austin, Texas facility.
