Tesla CEO Elon Musk said the company may finalize the design of its next-generation AI6 chip by December. The milestone, known as "tape out," marks the point when a chip design is sent for manufacturing.
Musk confirmed last year that Samsung Electronics secured a $16.5 billion deal to produce the AI6 chips using its 2-nanometer process. These chips are intended for Tesla's autonomous vehicles and Optimus humanoid robots at its Taylor, Texas factory.
While Samsung has targeted production for the second half of 2027, Musk suggested AI acceleration tools could move the tape-out date forward. He made the comment in a post on X, citing potential gains from AI-driven design optimization.
