The Netherlands has become the first European nation to approve Tesla's self-driving feature, granting conditional access to its Full Self-Driving (Supervised) system. The Dutch agency RDW confirmed Friday that the driver assistance system can now be used, with potential expansion across the European Union.
This approval mirrors the functionality already available to Tesla owners in the United States. The RDW emphasized that the system requires active driver supervision, with the human remaining in control and ready to intervene. "A vehicle with FSD Supervised is not self-driving. It is a driver assistance system, and the driver remains responsible and must always maintain control," stated the agency.
The European subsidiary of Tesla announced the impending rollout, noting that no other vehicle currently offers comparable capabilities. Elon Musk acknowledged the regulatory effort in the Netherlands, highlighting the collaborative work required to achieve this milestone. The RDW's decision will proceed to the European Commission for EU-wide authorization.
