A British Member of Parliament is taking Elon Musk’s xAI to court after its Grok chatbot generated a non-consensual deepfake bikini image of her. Jess Asato, the Labour MP for Lowestoft, filed suit in the UK High Court on June 3, citing the Data Protection Act and misuse of private information. It is the first parliamentary-level legal action against an AI company in the country.
Asato first raised the issue in the House of Commons in January 2026, condemning Grok for producing what she called 'deepfake pornography and sexualised content.' The lawsuit adds to mounting legal pressure on xAI, including a US case by Ashley St. Clair, a class-action from three Tennessee teenagers, and a separate suit from Baltimore City involving Grok-generated images.
Legal experts say the novel use of the Data Protection Act against an AI company for synthesizing new content from publicly available information could set a significant precedent for AI accountability and privacy law.
