Anthropic has released findings from the largest qualitative AI study to date, surveying over 80,000 individuals across 159 countries. The report reveals a sharp duality in public sentiment: the features users value most are often the source of their deepest fears.

Known as the "light and shade" problem, respondents cited AI as crucial for emotional support and workload automation. However, 89 percent expressed concerns, primarily regarding cognitive dependency and reliability. Lawyers and professionals reported gaining efficiency but feared losing critical thinking skills.

Geographic divides are stark. While North America and Western Europe focus on governance and job displacement, emerging markets in Africa and Latin America view AI as an economic equalizer. Anthropic confirms these insights will directly shape the development of their Claude chatbot.
