WhatsApp is launching parent-managed accounts for users under 13, allowing children to message and call with significant parental supervision. These accounts are limited to communication with saved contacts and approved groups. Parents will be notified of account activity and can approve or deny requests from unknown contacts. Features like Meta AI, Channels, and Status are restricted until users turn 13. The rollout is gradual and global.
Setting up a supervised account requires the latest app version on the child's device. Parents will register and verify the child's phone number and birthday, then set up a six-digit parent PIN. Once users reach 13, they gain full access to WhatsApp features, and parental controls are removed.
