X, Elon Musk's social media platform, is taking a firm stance against undisclosed AI-generated war videos. Creators who post artificial intelligence footage depicting armed conflict without clear labeling will face a 90-day suspension from the platform's revenue-sharing program. This policy aims to combat the spread of misinformation and manipulation during critical wartime periods.

Nikita Bier, X's head of product, stated that access to authentic information is crucial during conflicts and that current AI technologies can easily create misleading content. Repeat offenders risk permanent removal from the monetization program.

The policy update follows the proliferation of AI-generated videos claiming to show escalating violence. One such clip, depicting an airstrike on Dubai's Burj Khalifa, garnered over 8 million views on X. The United Nations has previously warned that deepfakes and AI media pose significant threats to information integrity, particularly in conflict zones.

This concern was highlighted during the Russia-Ukraine war when a deepfake video falsely showed Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky urging troops to surrender. Officials quickly debunked the fabricated footage.

X plans to enforce the new rule by identifying posts flagged by Community Notes as AI-generated, alongside metadata and other indicators of synthetic media.
